Sleep is evading me tonight. There’s too much on my mind, all stemming from a sentence from a movie.

Grace fell asleep within the first ten minutes of the movie. I don’t mind watching the odd romcom, so I decided to keep it on, given it was much earlier than I’d usually go to sleep.

A scene in the movie hit home, though. They were hiding their relationship from her family because he was from the wrong side of the tracks. It got me thinking, what if Grace and I need to hide our relationship forever. Is it worth being together when you can’t show the world you love one another?

As much as I want to reassure Grace that we can hide in our bubble and maintain our relationship and keep it from students and teachers at school, the reality weighs heavily on my mind.

Grace rolls away from me as I flop onto my back again. Running my hands through my hair in frustration, I stare at the ceiling for a brief minute, pleading with my brain to switch off, but it doesn’t. Instead, I slide myself out of bed, grab my glasses, and go downstairs to do some research.

Grabbing my laptop, I place it on the couch before holding the button down to turn it on and take a seat. Bruiser sleepily walks over and sits at my feet. He releases a huge yawn, his full set of teeth clearly showing before he jumps up next to me. “Hey, buddy,” I whisper, petting his head.

Sliding the laptop across my lap, I fire up the search engine, typing in ‘student-professor relationships,’ and start searching through the findings.

There’s a mixture of positive and negative. However, I go back to the very first result in the search which reads…
